The recently introduced subject of "Fachseminar Englisch" concerns topics in the forestry industry. First, we focus on methods of timber harvesting. A specific example is that students will learn about techniques such as "yarding systems" and other economically feasible harvesting systems. Other topics in the seminar include logging techniques in Austria, i.e. uphill and downhill skidding. Silvicultural issues, such as area distribution and the differences between tree species are also explored. Learning will not be limited to lectures and tests. Students will be required to actively engage the material through requirements such as presentations and field work. Upon conclusion of the seminar students will be both qualified and able to use English while applying for positions worldwide.
